Bensy Mathew is an educator, entrepreneur, community advocate, real estate professional, and long-time London resident committed to building a safer, stronger, more affordable, and better-connected Ward 7.

Through years of service to families, students, newcomers, and community organizations, Bensy has learned that effective leadership begins with listening. It requires understanding local concerns, bringing people together, and turning community priorities into practical action.

Education & Professional Experience

Before making Canada his home, Bensy worked as an Associate Professor in the Department of English at Al Zawiya University in Libya. He holds three master’s degrees in English and a Bachelor of Education in English and Social Studies.

Bensy has also completed additional professional studies in Financial Planning at George Brown College in Toronto and Real Estate at Humber College. His combined experience in education, business, financial planning, and real estate gives him a practical understanding of the challenges facing families, homeowners, tenants, seniors, newcomers, and small-business owners.

After immigrating to Canada, Bensy successfully established Abydos Academy in London. The academy serves students from Grades 1 to 12 and has helped hundreds of young people strengthen their academic skills, build confidence, and work toward their educational goals.

Community Education & Youth Advocacy

Beyond his professional career, Bensy has remained actively involved in community education and public awareness.

In partnership with community organizations, he has delivered educational presentations to children and families on critical topics such as the impact of social media on school-aged children. These one-hour, video-supported presentations were warmly received by both parents and students.

He has also conducted several educational sessions explaining the Canadian curriculum, academic pathways, and learning expectations, helping students and families make better-informed decisions about education.

Bensy believes education strengthens individuals, families, and communities—and that young people must be given the knowledge, support, and opportunities they need to succeed.

Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion

Bensy is a strong advocate for inclusion, equality, secularism, and social justice. He deeply respects the values at the foundation of Canadian society, including democracy, multiculturalism, multi-ethnicity, multilingualism, mutual respect, and equal opportunity.

Having come from a secular democratic country that shares many of these values, Bensy and his family embraced Canada’s diversity and adapted naturally to life in their new community.

He believes every resident—regardless of cultural background, ethnicity, language, faith, age, income, or country of origin—deserves to be treated with dignity and to have a meaningful voice in the decisions affecting the community.

A Changing London

Bensy and his family came to Canada with the same hopes shared by many newcomers: to build a stable life, own a home, raise a family in safety, and live among caring and supportive neighbours.

During his approximately 15 years in Canada, Bensy has witnessed significant changes in the daily lives of ordinary Canadians. Housing, groceries, transportation, utilities, and other necessities have become increasingly unaffordable. For many tenants, the dream of homeownership remains out of reach.

Ward 7, located in northwest London, has long been known as a peaceful and highly desirable place to live. However, rapid growth has also created new pressures involving housing, traffic congestion, infrastructure, school-zone safety, public transportation, and access to community services. The rapid increase in home prices, followed by a market correction, has placed financial pressure on many families and homeowners.

Safer Neighbourhoods & Pathways to Recovery

Drug addiction, overdose deaths, and the growing presence of fentanyl and other dangerous synthetic drugs have become a devastating crisis. Open drug use and related criminal activity in some public spaces also threaten the safety and well-being of residents, businesses, and vulnerable individuals.

Bensy believes this crisis requires both compassion and accountability. The City must work closely with healthcare providers, law enforcement, community organizations, and other levels of government to expand access to treatment, mental-health services, rehabilitation, and recovery programs while taking firm action against drug trafficking and criminal activity.

Recovery should not end with treatment. Through skills training, employment partnerships, and ongoing community support, people overcoming addiction can rebuild their lives, regain stability, and find renewed purpose and dignity. By combining prevention, treatment, enforcement, and employment opportunities, we can save lives and build safer, healthier neighbourhoods for everyone.
